Reading, PA - The Reading Royals today released the team's 2008-09 ECHL Regular Season Schedule. The 72-game schedule kicks off on Friday, October 17, 2008, at First Arena in Elmira, New York, where the Royals face the Elmira Jackals and concludes on Saturday, April 4, 2009, against the Dayton Bombers at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Sixty-three of next year's regular season games will be played against North Division rivals, including twelve match-ups against the Trenton Devils and eleven games against Elmira.
The Royals home schedule kicks off on Saturday, October 25, when the Johnstown Chiefs visit the Sovereign Center. The next day, the Augusta Lynx make their second trip in team history to Reading. The Royals host a couple of teams for the first time in the 2008-09 season. Next year, the Royals make the organization's second trip in team history out west to face teams from the National Conference, visiting the Utah Grizzlies in Salt Lake City, Utah (Tuesday and Wednesday, January 6 and 7) and then traveling to Boise, Idaho, to face the Steelheads on their home ice at Qwest Arena (Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10). The longest period of time that Reading is on the road next season stretches seven games from January 31, 2009 (at Johnstown) through February 14, 2009 (at Elmira).
The longest home stand for the Royals next year begins on Friday, January 16 (v. Wheeling Nailers) and extends through January 30, 2009 five games later, when the Royals face-off against the Nailers again. Within that time period, the Royals host the Elmira Jackals on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:05 am), when the organization kicks off Hockey Week in Reading which includes the 2009 ECHL All Star Skills Competition (Tuesday, January 20) and Game (Wednesday, January 21) at the Sovereign Center.
