Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING,WV - Fans of the Wheeling Nailers will have a chance to see both parent clubs face off against each other tonight when the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Philadelphia Flyers at 7:30 pm in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals at Mellon Arena.
The Flyers already have claimed top-seeded Montreal and third-seeded Washington as victims. Now, the second-seeded Penguins are the only team that stands between Philadelphia and an improbable berth in what would be the Flyers$B!G(B first Stanley Cup Final since 1997.
But the Penguins might be the most difficult opponent yet to topple. Not only are the Penguins 8-1 in these playoffs, but they have outscored their first two opponents --- Ottawa and the New York Rangers -- by a convincing 31-17 margin.
In net, Pittsburgh$B!G(Bs Marc-Andre Fleury has been a revelation. His .938 save percentage is the best of the tournament and his 1.76 goals-against average is third-best.
But it is Philadelphia goalie Martin Biron who has been administering the knockout blows through the first two rounds. In his first playoff run, Biron has proven the wait was worthwhile. While the numbers are not eye-popping, his 2.72 GAA is eighth in the playoffs and his .914 save percentage is third among the four remaining starting goalies in the playoffs, Biron simply gets the job done.
Across the state in Wilkes Barre, PA the AHL affiliates of the Nailers will face off at 7:05 at the Wachovia Arena in game six of their best of seven series. Wilkes-Barre / Scranton leads the series over the Phantoms 3-1 and can win the series with a victory tonight.
Former Nailers David Laliberte (Phi), Martin Houle (Phi), Kurtis McLean (WBS), Ned Havern (WBS), Jon D'Aversa (WBS) ,Paul Bissonnette (WBS), Kyle Rank (WBS), Aaron Boogaard (WBS), Tim Wallace (WBS), John Curry (WBS), and David Brown (WBS) all are hoping for a chance to hoist the Calder Cup this season.

The Nailers have reserved the upstairs banquet hall which features an 8 foot television screen for the fans to enjoy. To join the party tonight please call the Nailers office to make a reservation.
