ROYALS HOLD OFF GIANTS IN SHOOTOUT VICTORY Victoria's Matthew Phillips registers 200th WHL point and shootout winner in 6-5 win over Vancouver.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals defeated the Vancouver Giants 6-5 as Matthew Phillips scored the shootout winner, and goaltender Griffen Outhouse stopped all three attempts, on Saturday night.

Notes:

Record Setter - Matthew Phillips has registered a point in 16 consecutive games (13g-19a), which is the new franchise record for longest point streak. The previous high was set by Mark Santorelli (11g-16a) during the 2006-2007 season with the Chilliwack Bruins.

Captain Phillips - With an assist tonight, Victoria's Phillips registered his 200th career WHL point and 100th career WHL assist. The Calgary Flames' prospect is the fastest player in franchise history to accomplish both feats.

Awesome October - The Royals have now earned eight wins this month, which is the most the club has earned in any October since the club relocated to Victoria.

Saturday Night Shootout - Tonight's game marked the first shootout of the season for Victoria and second for Vancouver. Phillips' shootout marker was the first of his WHL career.

BC Division - With the win, Victoria remains perfect against BC Division opponents this year as they have collected a record of 7-0-0-0 and have outscored the opposition 35-17.

Milestone Night - Royals' forward Jared Legien took part in his 100th WHL contest tonight. The native of Pilot Butte, SK has registered 29 points (10g-19a) in his time in the league. Legien played 84 games with the Kootenay ICE from 2014-2017, and has played in all 16 games this season for Victoria.

Island Product - Vancouver forward Owen Hardy played close to home tonight, and earned a goal and an assist. The 1999-born skater is originally from Nanaimo, BC and played midget hockey for the North Island Silvertips of the BCMML.
