It's Fireworks Friday, presented by NAIFA, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. It's also Glenwood, Iowa Night and the Omaha Food Bank is marking its 25th anniversary. Air-time is 6:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
THURSDAY: Brendan Harris went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, an RBI and 3 runs scored as New Orleans beat the Royals 7-3. The game was tied at 1-1 when Harris led off the 6th inning with his 1st double of the day. That keyed a 2-run inning off Royals starter Kyle Snyder (0-4), who took the loss. The Z's added 3 more runs in the 7th off Steve Andrade, as Harris delivered an RBI single and Larry Broadway and Brandon Larson smacked run-scoring doubles. Chip Ambres homered for the Royals in the 7th, which was the only run in 3.0 innings off New Orleans reliever David Gil (2-3), who got the win. The Royals scored an unearned run in the 8th, but Jason Bergmann got the final out of the inning with the bases loaded and then pitched a scoreless 9th for his 2nd save.
ROYALS REPORT: The Royals loaded the bases with 2 outs in both the 3rd and 5th innings yesterday, but could not score. The bases were full with 1 out in the 8th, but the Royals could not muster a hit in the inning, scoring the lone run on a walk to Ambres. Omaha tied a season high by stranding 11 runners on base yesterday. *** Harris is 7-for-13 with 3 doubles and 5 runs scored in the series. Larson, the Most Outstading Player for LSU when he helped the Tigers to the College World Series title in 1997, is 5-for-13 with a double, home run and 4 RBI. *** Mark Teahen tripled in his 1st at-bat Thursday, giving him 27 hits in his last 52 at-bats for a sizzling .519 stretch. He has hit 2 homers and driven in 14 runs over that span. The Z's walked Teahen in his next 4 trips to the plate, making him the 1st Royal to collect 4 walks in a game since August 11, 2004, when Damian Jackson had 4 free passes at Edmonton. *** Ruben Gotay posted his club-leading 14th 2-hit game (and team-high 18th multi-hit game) yesterday. Gotay has hit in 10 of his last 11 contests, at a torrid .409 (18-44) pace (2 HR, 6 RBI). *** Aaron Guiel returned from KC yesterday, going 1-for-5 with a double in his 1st game back. *** Snyder hurled his 5th consecutive quality start of the season yesterday, but is 0-4 on the year. *** With yesterday's loss, the Royals are 3-12 in day games (19-20 at night). *** The Royals celebrated drawing 10-million fans in club history last Saturday. But, yesterday's crowd of 5,264 officially made Omaha just the 12th franchise in minor league history to hit the 10-million mark in attendance. In its 38th season, Royals games have drawn 10,002,204 fans.
