Royals Flush With Players From Manchester

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team today has received nine players from Manchester. Five players, two of whom are signed to Los Angeles Kings' contracts, were assigned today to Reading from Manchester. Four others who are under ECHL contract with the Royals have recently been released from the Monarchs' training camp. The players assigned to Reading from Manchester include forwards Dany Roussin and Ned Lukacevic, both of whom are under contract with the Kings, and forwards Patrick Jarrett and Brock Hooton and defenseman P.J. Atherton. Manchester also recently released four players under contract to Reading from the Monarchs' training camp: (i) goaltender Curtis Darling; (ii) defenseman Donny Grover; (iii) defenseman Kevin Schaeffer; and (iv) forward Mitch Stephens.

Last season, Roussin ["ROO sin"] (6'2"/200 lbs) (22), a third year pro from Quebec City, Quebec, scored eight goals and assisted on seventeen others (twenty-five points) in forty-seven games for the Royals. A second round pick of the Kings in 2005, Roussin also played fifteen games in Manchester last year, scoring four goals and assisting on two others. Lukacevic ["loo KASS uh VICK"] (6'0"/200) (21), a second year pro who was born in Podgorica, Serbia, scored seven goals and picked up seventeen assists (twenty-four points) in fifty three games for Reading last year. Lukacevic, who was chosen in the fourth round by Los Angeles in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, also scored a goal in twelve games with Manchester last season.

Jarrett ["JAIR reht"] (5'11"/180 lbs) (23), a center from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was signed to a contract today by the Monarchs after playing the last two seasons in Germany with the Berlin Polar Bears in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. A fifth round pick of the Nashville Predators in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Jarrett, who is entering his third season of pro hockey, scored nine goals and assisted on fifteen others in fifty-one games for Berlin last year. Hooton ["HOO ton"] (6'2"/205) (24), a right wing who hails from Nanaimo, British Columbia, scored seventeen goals and assisted on twenty-five others (forty-two points) in fifty-nine games for the Phoenix Roadrunners of the ECHL last season. Hooton, a fifth round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2002 who played his college hockey at St. Cloud State University, is entering his second season of pro hockey. Atherton ["ATH er ton"] (6'2"/205 lbs) (25), who hails from Edina, Minnesota, is also entering his second full season of pro hockey. Last year, Atherton, a sixth round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2002, scored five goals and assisted on twenty-four others (twenty-nine points) in fifty-seven games for the Johnstown Chiefs. Atherton, who played his college hockey for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, also scored a goal and assisted on another in seven games with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL last year.
