
Kozak Reassigned To Checkers By Rangers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The New York Rangers of the National Hockey League have reassigned forward Rick Kozak to the Charlotte Checkers. Defensemen Ryan Constant and Clayton Barthel have also been reassigned from Hartford to Charlotte.
Kozak, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and played parts of the last two seasons with the Checkers. The Norway House, Manitoba born winger appeared in 16 games with Charlotte last season and managed three goals and three assists for six points. He also accrued 79 penalty minutes ranking him first on the club in penalty minutes per game (4.94). Kozak recently participated at training camp for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
Constant, 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, played in 65 games with the Checkers last season and five with the Wolf Pack. The Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba born defenseman accumulated 26 points (two goals, 24 assists) and 76 penalty minutes with Charlotte. He also took part in Hartford's training camp before being reassigned to the Checkers.
Barthel, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, was a third round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Barthel was a part of the New York Rangers rookie and NHL camp as well as the training camp for Hartford. The Kelowna, British Columbia native played four games with the Phoenix Roadrunners last year where he totaled one assist and six penalty minutes.
The Checkers enter their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL on Oct. 19 against the Columbia Inferno. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
