Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (24-40-5= 53; 7th North Division) of the ECHL withstood a late game flurry from the Johnstown Chiefs to sustain a 2-1 win at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The win snapped a thirteen game winless streak for the Royals against the Chiefs dating back to February 1, 2008. Beau Erickson (win, 1-0-1; 30/31) ) made a number of difficult saves, particularly down the stretch in the third period, to register his first win as a pro; while the Royals beat Kris Mayotte (loss, 30/32) for the first time in five tries this year. Reading's power play was held off the board (0-6); but so was that of the Chiefs (0-3).
After a scoreless first, Reading struck 2:47 into the second period, when Danick Bouchard bagged a goal in his first game as a member of the Royals. Ben Gordon shoveled the puck into the crease, and it appeared that Mayotte was going to be able to freeze it. However, the puck slid free in the crease, and Tyler Doig kept it alive just before Bouchard tapped it in for his nineteenth of the year. Johnstown tied the game 5:40 into the third, after a mad scramble around the Royals' goal ended when Petr Pohl chipped one in from out front for his thirty-first of the season. Reading got what proved to be the game winner 9:54 into the third, when Dan Rudisuela took a shot from just above the goal line on the left side of the net. Somehow, the puck snuck through Mayotte on the short-side for Rudisuela's twenty-first of the year. Reading held off a late game charge from the Chiefs to register the team's thirteenth win at home this year (13-21-0).
The Royals travel to First Arena in Elmira, New York on Wednesday (April 1 @ 7:35 pm) to take on the Elmira Jackals in Reading's final road game of the year. Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
