
Royals Acquire Pitcher Jason Frasor from Texas for Minor League

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 16, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired veteran right-handed pitcher Jason Frasor (pronounced: FRAY-zer) from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton . In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the Royals designated infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes for assignment. The Royals have also optioned right-handed pitcher Louis Coleman to Triple-A Omaha.
Frasor, 36, is in his 11th Major League season and was in his second year with the Texas Rangers. He is 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA (11 ER in 29.2 IP) with 14 walks and 30 strikeouts in 38 relief appearances. Opponents are hitting just .243 against him this season, including a .233 mark vs. left-handed hitters (10-for-43). Frasor has made nine scoreless appearances against A.L. Central teams, spanning 7.0 innings. The veteran righty began his career with Toronto (2004-11, 2012) and also pitched part of one season for the Chicago White Sox (2011). He ranks 11th among active pitchers with 624 career appearances, posting a 31-35 record with a 3.65 ERA all-time.
Patton, 26, Kansas City's 24th-round draft pick in 2011, is 4-3 with a 4.08 ERA and 14 saves with Omaha this season. He was selected to participate in tonight's Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham, N.C.
