Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque Isotopes outfielder Joc Pederson homered and scored another run in the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C., but the Pacific Coast League was handed a 7-3 defeat by the International League.
Pederson blasted a 3-1 pitch halfway up the right field bleachers in Durham to leadoff the sixth inning for the PCL's first run of the game. After drawing a four-pitch walk in the eighth inning, he came around to score his second run of the evening on a two-out single by Colorado Spring's Ben Paulsen. Pederson finished the game 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
The IL struck early with a pair of runs in both the first and second innings. After Pederson cut it to 4-1 in the top of the sixth, the IL tacked on three more to expand the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Pederson's run in the eighth and another two-out RBI in the ninth cut it to 7-3.
Pederson's home run was the first by an Isotope in the Triple-A All-Star Game since Val Pascucci homered in the 2007 game hosted at Isotopes Park
In 79 games with Albuquerque this season, Pederson is hitting .324 with 13 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs and 43 RBI. The 22-year-old has reached base in 72 of the 79 games he's played in and leads the PCL with a .445 on-base percentage. Pederson also ranks tied for sixth in home runs (17), sixth in stolen bases (20), third in slugging percentage (.572), fifth in runs scored (61) and tied for first in walks (63). Pederson was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization entering the season.
The Isotopes return to action following the All-Star Break by opening an eight-game homestand against the Sacramento River Cats on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. After four games against Sacramento, the Reno Aces will come to town for a four-game set.
