Royals Acquire Four in a Pair of Trades

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired the ECHL rights to defenseman Drew Paris ["pah REE"] from the Chicago Express in exchange for forward Dennis McCauley. In a separate trade also completed today, the Royals acquired forwards Chris Doyle and Ian O'Connor and defenseman Colten Hayes from the Stockton Thunder in exchange for defenseman Rob Kwiet. In separate transactions also announced today, the Royals (i) signed goaltender Shane Davis as an emergency back-up goaltender; and (ii) placed forward Tyler Brenner on the 3-Day Injured Reserve.

Paris (6'4/221) (23), a third year pro from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, registered six points (3g-3a) and six penalty minutes in thirteen games with the Express. Paris, who is under contract with the Marlies, has also played twenty-one AHL games with Toronto this season, recording three points (1g-2a) and ten penalty minutes.

Doyle (6'0/199) (21), a first year pro who hails from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, scored twelve goals and assisted on five others (seventeen points) in nineteen games with Stockton. A fifth round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Doyle also registered eleven points (5g-6a) in thirteen games with the South Carolina Stingrays this season. Prior to joining the Stingrays, Doyle picked up thirty-one points (15g-16a) in twenty-two games with the Augusta Riverhawks of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

O'Connor (6'0/206) (24), a first year pro from Londonderry, New Hampshire, recorded twenty-six points (15g-11a) and forty-seven penalty minutes in forty-nine games with the Thunder. O'Connor, who played collegiately at Providence College, played six games with the Royals last year, scoring his first pro goal and picking up seven penalty minutes, after the completion of his senior season with the Friars.

Hayes (6'0/189) (21), who hails from Surrey British Columbia, is in his first season of pro. In thirty-nine games with Stockton, he recorded twenty-one points (3g-18a) and sixty-nine penalty minutes. Last year, Hayes racked up fifty-four points (12g-42a) and 200 penalty minutes in fifty-five games with the Okotoks Oilers in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The Royals return to action on Friday (March 9, 2012 @ 7:05 pm) when the Toledo Walleye visit the Sovereign Center for the final regular season match-up between the two teams. That night, the Royals and the Sovereign Center will host a 'Happy Hour' at the Corner Bar and Restaurant (6:00 pm - 7:30 pm). Friday's game night broadcast will start at 6:35 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading.
