Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (August 18, 2009) - The Brockton Rox eight-game win streak came to an end on Tuesday night as the Quebec Capitales stormed into Brockton and knocked around 17 hits in a 9-4 win at Campanelli Stadium.

The Capitales arrival to the ballpark was delayed due to unavoidable travel complications, and caused a delay of over an hour and half. However Quebec did not seem to miss a beat, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Rox starter RHP Wayne Lundgren.

However the Rox offense picked up Lundgren in the bottom of the inning when DH Palmer Karr drove in a pair with a single and put the Rox in front 2-1.

Lundgren settled in and worked scoreless through the fourth inning. Meanwhile, the offense added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI ground out by 3B Phillip Cuadrado.

In the fifth inning, the Capitales tie the game at 3-3 against Lundgren with an RBI double by 1B Pierre-Luc LaForest, and an RBI groundout by 3B Patrick Deschenes. Lundgren departed after the fifth inning, his second-shortest outing all year with his pitch count nearing 100.

In the sixth, reliever RHP Matt Zachary faced five batters, but was unable to record an out while the Capitales scored four quick runs to break the game open. RHP Buster Lussier entered with runners at the corners and nobody out, but was not charged with a run, retiring two of the three batters he faced and picking off a base runner.

On the other side, Capitales' starter RHP James Kukucka recorded the win, retiring nine of the last ten batters he faced and left after six innings. The bullpen combination of RHP Brett Palanski and RHP Sean Gregory finished the game for the Capitales allowing one unearned run in the ninth inning.

The Rox and Capitales take the field in the second game of the series on Wednesday night at Campanelli Stadium. Quebec's RHP Chris Allen (5-7, 3.38 ERA) will face Rox RHP Freddy Flores (4-3, 3.90 ERA). Wednesday night's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
