St. Cloud, MN - Ryan Weisenberg (Georgetown) came up big when the St. Cloud Rox needed it most on Saturday night at the Rock Pile.
Weisenberg singled home Ryland Kerr (Eastern Kentucky) in the bottom of the 11th inning to help the Rox to an 8-7 victory over the Bismarck Larks in extra innings.
Kerr began the 11th inning with a single, later finding himself standing on third base after a sacrifice bunt from Landon Stephens (Miami-Ohio) and a sacrifice fly Sergio Esparza (Arkansas at Pine Bluff). With two outs, Weisenberg sent fans home happy with a RBI single to center field, bringing home Kerr.
Kerr led the way for the Rox at the plate in the game, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Ricardo Sanchez (Arkansas at Pine Bluff) went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while Esparza, Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) and Bobby Seymour (Wake Forest) all had two hits and one RBI.
Andrew Mitchel (San Jose State) had a nice outing in his start on the mound for St. Cloud, earning a no-decision. Over five innings of work, Mitchel gave up four hits, just one run and struck out seven. Austin Suhr (South Dakota State) picked up the win, pitching one shutout inning in relief.
The Rox and Larks will finish up the current two-game series at 4:05 p.m. Sunday evening back at the Rock Pile. Sunday's game will be Brooks & Baseball Day presented by the Initiative Foundation and United Way. The first 200 families with a child five and under will receive a book and will have the opportunity to read with the players on the field before the game. It will also be Coborn's Kids Day, where kids will be able to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
The Rox are in their seventh season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. Single game and group tickets for the entire season are on sale now.
