Larks sweep Huskies as walks get the best of Duluth again

June 2, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release

After losing the first game of the day-night doubleheader to Bismarck on Friday, the Huskies had a chance to redeem themselves against the Larks later in the day. The Larks rallied in the ninth to defeat Duluth Friday afternoon 9-8, but the second game would be more of a gut punch. After grabbing an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Bismarck would tie it up and then some. The Larks took a 3-1 lead after the second inning and increased the lead to 9-1 after three innings. The Huskies surrendered 13 walks in the first three innings of the game that would result in 9 runs for the Larks. It was a tough night for Duluth pitching as the Huskies suffered their worst loss of the year by dropping the game 11-3.

Logan VanWey was a bright spot despite the team's tough defeat. VanWey came in for relief of Michael Munson in the third and he would go on to strikeout 9 batters in 4.1 innings of relief. VanWey was on point with his command and is now second in the Northwoods league with 11 strikeouts on the season. The Huskies will conclude their 5-game road trip on Saturday against the Eau Claire Express at 6:35 p.m.
