Brockton Rox News Release

(Brockton, Mass - June 12, 2011) - Jorge Jimenez played the hero in Sunday's series finale, swatting three solo home runs, including the game winner in the bottom of the twelfth inning to propel the Brockton Rox (10-7) over the Newark Bears (11-6) 5-4 on a misty afternoon at Campanelli Stadium.

The Rox third basemen first homered to give Brockton the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third and following a Keith Brachold two-run shot in the fourth, connected for his second home run leading off the fifth frame, making the score 4-2.

Trailing by two in the sixth inning, Newark's potent offense chased Rox starter Mark Rosen and tied the game at four.

Kyle LaMotta walked to lead off the frame and was quickly plated by an RBI double from Tim Raines Jr. One out later, Danny Santiesteban connected for another run-scoring double, that drove in Raines Jr. and evened the score, 4-4. The double by Santiesteban was his second extra base hit of the day, following a two-run triple that got the Bears on the board in the fourth.

Raines Jr. went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Rosen lasted a season high five and 2/3 innings, while allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out two.

Neither side managed to scratch a run from the sixth to the eleventh inning, as the Rox received brilliant scoreless outings from bullpen members Dustin Birosak, Colin Lynch, Reid Jackson and the eventual game winner, Travis Hughes (1-1).

Newark starter Jacob Wild pitched well through a season long eight frames, allowing all four Brockton runs on three homers, before giving way to Andrew Pluta (1-2) in the ninth.

Pluta shut down the Rox offense for three frames, until with two outs in the twelfth inning, Jimenez stepped to the dish and launched a career high third round-tripper to end the game.

Jimenez finished the afternoon 4-for-5 with a double and three home runs.

The Rox concluded the series with Newark playing 24 innings in 24 hours and going extra frames in three of their last four contests.

Brockton will have the day off Monday before wrapping up the homestand with a two game set against Rockland. Veteran righthander Freddy Flores gets the nod as the Rox get their first look at the Boulders on a Two-for-Tuesday night at Campanelli Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
