Rox Sweep Twin Bill From Capitales

(Quebec City, QC - July 27, 2011) - The Brockton Rox (8-2, 34-22) clinched a series victory sweeping a doubleheader over the Quebec Capitales (5-5, 40-16) 5-4 and 3-2 at Stade Municipal Wednesday night.

In game one, Freddy Flores (5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) gave up four runs on three homers in the first three innings. Goefrey Tomlinson and Mitch Delaney each connected for solo shots, while Rene Leveret hit his second two-run bomb of the series. Flores (5-4) picked up the win in the effort, sitting down the last seven he faced.

Brockton's bats came alive in the third frame against Dan Sausville (5.1 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K), scoring three runs on four hits, before mounting their second lead of the game two innings later.

Sausvillle (4-3) took the loss as the Rox scored twice in the fifth. Mike Torres singled to open the frame and Keith Brachold laced a triple to tie the game at four. Two batters later, Melvin Falu drove a sacrifice fly to centerfield, putting the Rox on top 5-4.

Mark Rosen and Jake Hale combined to record the final six outs, while Hale notched his eighth save of the season. Two walks from Rosen and one from Hale loaded the bases in the ninth, but Quebec would strand three in the final frame as Hale retired Sebastien Boucher and Leveret to clinch game one.

In the second game, Dustin Birosak (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 BB, 3 K) was effectively wild through six innings, walking a team high tying seven, but allowing only two runs on Bobby Wagner's two-run blast in the fourth.

The Rox did their damage against Karl Gelinas (7 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) in three separate innings. Dan Barbero cracked his first home run of the season to lead off the third and Brachold tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single that knocked home Chris Valencia.

Jimmer Kennedy (2-1) entered in the seventh and grabbed the win in a scoreless outing as neither side was able to scratch a run in the frame.

In the top of the eighth, Brockton took a 3-2 lead on a hit batsman, two sacrifice bunts and two errors by Gelinas as Dominic Ramos came around to score the winning run.

Gelinas (5-4) was saddled with the loss after facing three batters in the final frame without recording an out.

Ahead by one, Hale got the call again in the eighth and tossed a perfect frame, accumulating his second save of the evening and ninth of the season to cap off the affair.

The Rox go for the sweep in the series finale Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.and have already handed the Capitales their first series defeat of the season. Quebec takes a season long four game losing streak into the final contest as Julian Sampson is scheduled to go toe to toe with John Mariotti.
