New Jersey Jackals News Release

Worcester, Mass. - With the New Jersey Jackals leading 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Can-Am League home run leader Nick Salotti lifted a game-tying home run for the Tornadoes to send the game into extra innings before Chris Colabello won it for Worcester, 3-2, with a walk-off blast in the bottom of the 12th inning on Thursday night at Hanover Insurance Park.

In the losing effort, New Jersey starter Shaun Ellis hurled seven shutout innings and allowed just four hits.

With former Jackal Ryan Lobban on the mound for Worcester, New Jersey opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Mike Jones lifted a one-out double off the top of the left field wall and Sean Smith followed with a two-run homer to left, his first in a Jackals' uniform, to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead.

That score held until the bottom of the ninth when Mark Minicozzi led off with a single against Steve Fox and scored two batters later when Salotti's fly ball dropped over the left center field wall just out of the reach of New Jersey's leaping left fielder, Nick Santomauro, to tie the contest.

With one out in the bottom of the 12th, Colabello redirected a Jeff Gogal pitch over the right center field wall for the game-winning homer, his 16thof the season.

Lobban pitched well for Worcester, surrendering just two runs on five hits while striking out seven batters over 6 1/3 innings. Tornadoes' reliever Michael Gedman (2-1) contributed a scoreless 12th inning to notch the win while Gogal (1-4) absorbed the loss for New Jersey.

The Jackals return home to Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. to begin a three-game series against the Pittsfield Colonials. In the series opener, New Jersey will send southpaw James Leverton (7-4, 2.59 ERA) to the mound against Pittsfield left-hander Dave Qualben (4-4, 3.53 ERA). Cody Chrusciel and Matt Sutor have the call on the live webcast beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch at jackals.com.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2011 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
