Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA - For the second consecutive night, the New Jersey Jackals came from behind to steal a victory from the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium. On Saturday night, it was a five-run eighth which erased a 2-0 Rox lead, and took a win from the hands of Rox ace RHP John Kelly.
Kelly pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, scattering three hits and striking out nine. He exited the game after the seventh inning with a 2-0 lead; looking for his third win of the season. However, the Jackals offense came alive in the eighth inning against Rox RHP James Baker. New Jersey scored five times in the eighth capped by a two-run home run from 1B Juan Tejeda to make it a 5-2 game.
The lead would stand; even against a Rox ninth-inning rally. Facing Jackals closer LHP Rusty Tucker for the second straight night, the Rox first three batters reached base in the ninth inning. DH Josh Vander Hey drove in 2B Melvin Falu with an RBI single which cut the lead to 5-3. But Tucker struck out C Lee Rubin and retired CF Ervin Alcantara on a groundout to third to end the game.
Brockton fell two games below .500 with the loss and now stands at 13-15, while New Jersey improved to 14-14. The two teams finish the series on Sunday with a 1:05 PM afternoon contest in which the Jackals will go for the three-game sweep. The Rox will send LHP Rolando Viera (1-4, 4.41 ERA) to the mound opposite Jackals LHP Aaron Tressler (1-2, 7.46 ERA).
