St. Cloud Rox News Release
ST CLOUD- A late inning comeback by the Rox fell short Sunday afternoon, resulting in a 5-4 loss to the Duluth Huskies. The game was played in front of 2,054 fans on Rox replica jersey giveaway day.
Chris Paul (California) was 3-4 with two runs in the loss, while Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota) and Nick Tanielu (Washington St) each had a pair of RBI.
Duluth built a 6-0 lead through four and a half innings until the Rox got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Paul led off with a double, Elvin Soto (Pittsburgh) was hit by a pitch. With one out, Tanielu singled to load the bases and Henkemeyer followed with a single to score Paul and pinch runner Erik Kozel (Colorado State) to cut the Huskies lead to 6-2.
The Rox got one more run when Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh) doubled to lead off the sixth, moved to third on a Carlos Lopez (Cal State Fullerton) single and scored on a Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) sacrifice fly.
Paul Schaak (Eastern Michigan) and Ben Meyer (Minnesota) pitched well and kept the Rox in the game over the games final four innings, and the Rox nearly tied the game in the bottom of ninth.
With two outs and the Rox trailing 6-3, Paul and pinch hitter Ty Jackson (Washington State) singled. Nick Rau (Georgia Southern) walked to load the bases to set the stage for a Tanielu two-RBI single to cut the lead to 6-5. The Rox could not push across the tying run, however.
The Rox have two games left in their current homestand, beginning with Community Spotlight Night on Monday July 9th presented by St. Cloud Times.
Tuesday night is Inaugural Season Pennant Giveaway night, presented by Charter Communications.
