Honkers Pounded by Stingers 21-11

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers took a 21-11 beating at the hands of the Willmar Stingers on Monday night in Rochester, MN to lose the three-game set 2-1.

For the Stingers, 21 runs in a single game is a new franchise record.

Both teams collected 17 hits apiece in the slugfest.

The Honkers used six pitchers in the loss and committed three errors in the field.

The Stingers started the offensive showcase right away scoring three runs in the first inning and six in the second to take an early 9-1 lead.

Honkers starter Jared Miller (Vanderbilt) lasted just 2.0 innings and gave up nine runs, however all six Willmar runs in the second inning were unearned. Miller surrendered five hits and four free passes to move his record to 2-1.

The killer inning for the home team was the top of the sixth when Willmar sent fifteen men to the plate and scored ten runs to increase their lead to 19-2.

The Honkers had a six-run inning of their own in the bottom of the frame capped by a two-run homer from catcher Chad Wallach (Cal State Fullerton).

The damage was done already as the deficit was too large to come back from.

Willmar starter Kyle Fischer (St. Cloud State) picked up the victory to improve his record to 3-0. Fischer allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings of work.

Honkers right fielder Ben Lahn (Lamar CC) went a perfect 3 for 3 with two runs scored and Wallach added a couple of hits including his fourth homerun of the summer.

Third baseman Jordan Parr (Illinois) also added his fourth long ball in the defeat.

Tomorrow the Honkers (2-3, 17-23) travel to Mankato, MN to open a three game series with the MoonDogs (4-1, 31-8) at 1:05 PM. The series will come back to Rochester for game two on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM before finalizing back in Mankato on Thursday.

Starting tomorrow for the Honkers is right-hander Chris Noble (Pikeville). Noble is 2-3 this summer with an 8.31 ERA in six starts. On the hill for the MoonDogs is righty Adam Mott (New Mexico State). Mott Is 3-1 with a 3.56 ERA in five starts.
