QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC - (August 24, 2009) - After knocking around 41 hits against the Worcester Tornadoes in the preceding three-game series, the Brockton Rox offense opened up flat against Quebec in a 6-1 loss on Monday night.

The Rox managed just six scattered hits, and scored its only run in the ninth inning on an RBI groundout by LF Jud Thigpen. Thigpen plated 2B Melvin Falu who had tripled just moments before for the Rox sixth and final hit of the night, and the only extra-base hit for Brockton.

The Rox were stymied by four different Quebec pitchers after the Capitales' starter RHP Karl Gelinas was lifted after three innings. Gelinas was scheduled to throw just 45 pitches, returning from an elbow injury. The bullpen picked up in stride behind him with RHP Brett Palanski and RHP Sean Gregory combining for five scoreless innings to follow. Gregory recorded the win, hurling three of those innings and allowing just one hit with a walk and two strikeouts. The Rox lone run of the game came against LHP Bryan Dumesnil.

Quebec scored three early runs against Brockton starter RHP Freddy Flores. After two first-inning runs, Quebec added another in the third to make it a 3-0 game. While the Rox offense scraped and clawed in a futile attempt to come back, Flores settled in until the fifth inning. With one out and two on in the fifth, Quebec C Pierre-Luc LaForest hit his first home run in 48 at-bats, a three-run shot to deep left center to push the lead to an unreachable 6-0.

RHP Matt Zachary entered with one out in the fifth and pitched scoreless frames the rest of the way. He allowed two hits, two walks, and struck out two in 3.2 innings of relief.

The Rox and Capitales square off in the second game of four on Tuesday night in Quebec City. Tuesday night's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Brockton will send RHP Buster Lussier (3-0, 2.61 ERA) vs. Quebec's RHP Dan Sausville (7-3, 4.19 ERA).
