Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

With the help of five straight first inning hits, the Grand Junction Rockies improved to 3-1 in the second half with an 8-3 win over the Orem Owlz Saturday night at Suplizio Field.

The Rockies first inning hit barrage came after Ryan Feltner stranded a man at second in the top of the inning. Will Golsan started it with a single and moved to third on Hunter Stovall's single. Coco Montes doubled both home to put the Rockies on top. Grant Lavigne and Niko Decolati followed with run scoring hits to cap off the Rockies four run inning.

Zach Hall increased the lead when he started the second inning with his seventh home run of the season, and then with two-out, Montes followed Stovall's double with an RBI single to make it 6-0.

Feltner allowed two hits in four scoreless innings with five strikeouts, but didn't factor in the decision. Wander Cabrera followed him and retired all six that he faced, earning his second win.

Golsan started the bottom of the sixth with a walk and scored on Stovall's triple to make it 7-0, but Orem got on the board when Kiki Menendez hit a 2-run homer off Jared Skolnicki in the seventh. A Golsan RBI double in the bottom of the inning, but after he held the Owlz off the board in the eighth, Cayden Hatcher gave up a run in the ninth.

Golsan finished with two hits, two walks, and two runs scored, while Montes, Lavigne, and Jeff Moberg had two hit nights.

Stovall finished a home run shy of the cycle.

The win improves the Rockies to a season-best four games over .500 for the season at 23-19, and they'll go for the sweep of the 2-game series against the Owlz when they send Ryan Rolison to the hill Sunday. First pitch from Suplizio Field is set for 5:00.
