
Helena Scores Early, Often to Beat Voyagers

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers surrendered a season high in hits and runs with a 13-4 loss to the Helena Brewers Saturday night at Centene Stadium.
Great Falls (22-19, 0-3) is 3-8 in the season series against the Brewers, and has now lost six straight against the North Division rival dating back to July 1st. Helena (20-21, 3-0) improved to 9-13 on the road. The Voyagers home record fell to 15-7.
Helena opened the game with runs in each of the first two frames. In the top of the 1st, Jean Carmona singled to center with one out and later scored on a sacrifice fly to left by David Fry. The Brewers sent nine men to the plate in the 2nd for a three-run inning. Eddie Silva led off with a double. Pablo Abreu, Bryan Connell, and Jesus Lujano all walked for a 2-0 lead. Abreu then scored on a wild pitch. After a pitching change, Fry coaxed a two-out walk with the bases loaded for a 4-0 cushion.
The Brewers broke it wide open with another three spot in the 4th. Yeison Coca reached with a one-out single to center. Jean Carmona doubled home Coca on a ball hit to the wall in left-center. David Fry made it 6-0 with an RBI single to right. Fry scored the seventh run on a wild pitch.
The Voyagers used an Alex Destino double and an error in the bottom of the 4th for their first run. Destino scored from second on a groundout to the pitcher after a wild throw from first to third. Great Falls trimmed the lead to 7-2 with a run in the 5th. Logan Sowers singled to center with one out. A two-out Amado Nunez triple to deep right brought Sowers all the way around from first.
After Helena added two more runs in the top of the 7th, Amado Nunez registered his second RBI triple of the game in the home half. With one out, Logan Sowers walked and stole second. Nunez brought him home with a triple deep to straightaway center that reached the wall.
For the Voyagers, Ramon Beltre extended his on-base streak to 23 consecutive games with an RBI single in the 8th. The base hit scored Romy Gonzalez, who had led off the inning with a walk. The Brewers tacked on four more runs in the 9th for good measure. Chad McClanahan had an RBI double and Jesus Lujano posted an RBI triple.
The 13 runs and 16 hits allowed by Great Falls are the most in a single game this season. Both teams made three errors. Jean Carmona and Jesus Lujano each collected three hits for Helena. Carmona scored twice and Lujano drove in three. David Fry also has three RBIs. Logan Sowers and Amado Nunez both had two hits for Great Falls.
Scott Sunitsch picked up the win, his second of the season at Great Falls. Sunitsch (2-0) worked five innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Jason Bilous took the loss. Bilous (0-2) lasted just one-and-two-thirds and allowed four earned runs on two hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
