St. Cloud Rox News Release

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox hosted their first home game in six days Saturday as they welcomed the Willmar Stingers into town for their second game of a four game straight series. The Rox unfortunately fell to the Stingers in a 6-5 battle.

Both teams started the game out with some great defensive plays to keep the game scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Stingers took a 3-0 lead over the Rox. Willmar scored off a single as the previous batter reached on a walk and then stole second placing himself into scoring position. The Stingers earned their final two runs in the inning off a couple grounded out balls that were unearned.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Rox got things going as Tim Colwell hit a double and was followed by Daniel Comstock with a single scoring Colwell to bring the game within two at 3-1.

Willmar extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning scoring one run for a 4-1 lead over St. Cloud off a two out double.

The Rox had a big sixth inning as Vincent Jackson led off hitting a single and advanced to third as Chris Paul hit a double. Colwell was next up to bat hitting a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Jackson on the play. Comstock then hit a single to bring home Paul making it a 4-3 game.

Stingers' Michael Suchy reached on a walk with two outs on the board to advance to second on a pass ball. Max Kuhn followed hitting a single making it a 5-3 game. Willmar would extend their lead 6-3 with a runner on third and Rox' pitcher Dalton Sawyer committed a balk.

The bottom of the ninth gave the Rox hope as Newcomer Luke Weber (Jr., University of South Carolina Upstate) led off hitting a double to get the bats going. Adam Martin followed reaching on a walk and advanced to third off a double by Dustin Breshears and Weber scored. The Rox made it a 6-5 game off a grounded out to short and the second out of the inning. St. Cloud would fall short off a ground out to end the game.

Making the start on the mound was Kyle Murray and was relieved by Dalton Sawyer and Tyler Wolfe. All three pitchers pitched 3.0 innings of work with Murray recording the loss.

The St. Cloud Rox lead the Northwoods League in runs scored and hits as well as second in the league for RBIs and batting average.
