Mequon, Wis. - Kenton San Miguel (W, 1-0) tossed four innings allowing one run and striking out five on his birthday Saturday night as the Battle Creek Bombers (10-7) defeated the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-7) 8-7. The two teams scored all 15 runs in the first five innings and were shutout from there.
Matthew Fears delivered a big two-run home run in the fourth inning. Joe Serrano and Drew Carlile pitched in with RBI-doubles in the inning as well.
The Chinooks scored all of their runs in the first four innings, seven of which came off starter Ryan Lavoie. Jerrick Suiter blasted a two-run home run off the left field scoreboard in the third. Chinooks' reliever Luke Lowery (L, 0-1) was handed the loss after the Bombers took the lead in the fifth on an error by shortstop Mason Snyder.
The Battle Creek relievers retired 13 in a row at one point and 16 of the last 17 batters to close the game. Gabe Berman (S, 3) came on for the ninth inning to save the game.
The two teams play the rubber match of their three game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 ET.
