Jeff Campbell and Matt Halloran hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and the Rochester Honkers went on to beat the Thunder Bay Border Cats 4-2 Friday night at Mayo Field. The Honkers upped their lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the 6th inning before the Cats got on the board in the top 7th. Alex Bautista (Clarendon College) broke the shutout by hitting a solo home run, his third of the season. The Cats loaded the bases with nobody out in the 8th inning, but scored only one run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University). Joey Hawkins (Missouri State University) went 2-4 as the Cats record slipped to 7-10.
John Hayes (Murray State College) made his first start of the season, but took the loss to fall to 0-2. The righthander pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up four hits and four runs. Hayes walked four and struck out five. Matt Blackham (Johnson County College) made his Border Cats debut and pitched a scoreless 8th inning with one strikeout.
The Cats and Honkers conclude their two-game series tonight at 8:05pm ET. Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay. The lefthander has made two starts and is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA.
