St. Cloud Rox News Release
Eau Claire, WI - The Rox used some two-out magic to produce their runs on Sunday evening in Eau Claire. Mark Skonieczny (Illinois) and Drew Freedman came up clutch with hits. Skonieczny delivered with an RBI double off the right field wall, which scored Ramirez in the 4th inning. Freedman produced an RBI single in the 5th inning. St. Cloud (17-8) fell just short to Eau Claire (18-8) 5-2 at Carson Park.
There was a lot of strong defense for the Rox on Sunday. The club faced some trouble in the 6th inning with runners on first and second for Eau Claire. RHP Collin Strall (LSU) was summoned on out of the bullpen and induced a double play ball to end the frame. Freedman fielded the ground ball at short, tapped the second base bag and then threw a rocket to first. Despite giving up a home run, Strall made a terrific fielding play prior to the homer. He fielded a bunt and threw out the lead runner trying to take second base. Strall has not allowed an earned run in his last 14.1 innings (the runs from the homer were unearned.
LHP Logan Salow (Kentucky) made his fourth start for the Rox on Sunday and faced adversity throughout. The southpaw lasted 5.1 innings, allowed 7 hits, had 4 walks, and recorded 7 strikeouts. Salow also picked off Eau Claire base runner Sam Hurt in the 2nd inning.
Brandon Benson (Georgia College) and Mason Mamarella (Kent State) provided some in the loss with two hits each. Benson launched a deep fly in the 5th inning that nearly sparked a big frame, but the club stranded the bases loaded.
The Rox return to Joe Faber Field on Monday night and will host the Willmar Stingers for the first time this season. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and the Rox Solid Pregame Warmup starts at 6:35 p.m on 1390 AM The Fan. LHP Aaron Rozek (1-0, 4.50) starts for St. Cloud.
