Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - It's the Luxemburg Pet Clinic Bark in the Park with a leash giveaway today at Joannes Stadium. Fans can bring their dog to the ballpark to watch the Bullfrogs (9-16) take on the Madison Mallards (15-10). This is game two of the series, the Bullfrogs dropped the first game last night, 9-1.
Last night was the not the performance the Bullfrogs were hoping for after a great extra inning win against the Growlers the previous night. The Bullfrogs came out flat against the Mallards and got beat in all three phases of the game.
Out of the gates, the Mallards came out swinging the bat. In the first inning, against Austin Hancock (Lenoir Rhyne), the Mallards first three batters recorded a hit. Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) drove in the first run of the ballgame by hitting a RBI double off the right field fence. In a jam, Hancock was able to strand the Mallards at second and third without giving up another run.
The game would remain 1-0 until the fifth inning. The Mallards put up two more runs after a two RBI double by Nate Palace (Valparaiso). The fifth inning would be Hancock's last as he went five innings, giving up one earned run and striking out three. The Mallards continue to score as they plated five more runs in the next two innings off of right-handed pitcher Connor Jackson (UC-Berkeley).
The Bullfrogs could not get anything going offensively the entire night. Only two Bullfrogs players recorded hits in the ballgame, Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) and Quincy Nipeorte (Florida State). Shoemaker scored the only run after wild pitch in the sixth.
Today, the Bullfrogs send newcomer Stephan Poplin to the mound. This will be Poplin's first start and appearance in a Bullfrogs uniform. He just finished his freshman year at Southern Union State Community College. For the Mallards, Justin Watts gets the ball. This will his fifth start of the season and second against the Bullfrogs. He picked up a no decision as he went six innings, giving up three runs and striking out six.
First pitch is at 4:05pm.
