Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - Bullfrogs lost the lead late to the Madison Mallards as they drop their second game in a row. Heading into the ninth inning the Bullfrogs were up 5-4 but the Mallards tied the ballgame up on single by Matt Vierling (Notre Dame). They would go on to score the winning run in the 12th inning. The Bullfrogs record moves to 9-17 on the year.
The Mallards scored first once again as they plated three runs in the top of the second. Stephan Poplin (Southern Union State CC) started for the Bullfrogs and gave up back to back RBI singles to Nico Hoerner (Stanford) and Matt McCann (Farleigh Dickenson). In the bottom of the second, the Bullfrogs cut into the early deficit after Jonah Davis (UC-Berkeley) hit a two run home run to right center, his third of the year.
In the next inning, the Bullfrogs would take the lead via the long ball as Quincy Nieporte sent towering two run home run to left field. The back and forth game would continue in the next inning as the Mallards tied the ballgame in the fourth off a sac fly by Hoerner to plate Joe Stefanki (San Jose State).
The bullpen pitched well for the Bullfrogs as BJ Sabol (Indiana) and Jeremy Graf (Flagler) would come into the ballgame and combine an allowed one hit, no runs, and four strikeouts through four and two-third innings.
The Bullfrogs took back the lead in the seventh inning as Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) crushed a fastball and drove it over the right fielder's head to score Randell Kanemaru (Columbia) from second base.
Harrisen Egly (Columbia) came on in the ninth to try and save the ballgame. Unfortunately Egly ran into some trouble and allowed the tying run to score off a RBI single from Vierling. The game would move to extras. The Bullfrogs had an opportunity to win the ballgame in the 10th but an inning ending double play squashed the Bullfrogs hopes.
On to the 12th, The Mallards had a runner on first with one out, Cameron Frost (Washington State) ripped a double to right center that scored Vierling from first off of Clayton Uselman (Madison College).
Uselman picked up the loss after throwing three innings in relief, striking out four and gave up the winning run on two hits. Troy Bacon (Santa Fe) earned the win after throwing three scoreless innings. Alex Smith recorded the save.
Bullfrogs will welcome the Eau Claire Express to Green Bay tomorrow to begin a two game series. The series record is in favor of the Express, 2-0. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
