Rox Drop Two at Home against Willmar

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Willmar Stingers were back in action Sunday at Faber Field for their final game before heading back to Willmar to end their four game series together.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Rox' Chris Paul (So. University of California) hit a single followed by Tim Colwell (Jr., North Dakota State University) earning a walk. Adam Martin (Jr., Western Carolina University) would then hit a single to load the bases for the Rox with one out on the board. Charlie Morgan (Jr., Wake Forest University) followed reaching on a fielder's choice but Paul was out at home third base to catcher. Conor Keniry (Jr., Wake Forest University) came back hitting a two RBI double for the Rox 2-0 lead over the Stingers.

Willmar would make it a 2-1 game in the top of the fourth off a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Stingers would take the lead over the Rox in the top of the fifth scoring two runs on the Rox' starting pitcher Eric Nyquist (So., Mercer University) and then another two runs off relief pitcher Reese Gregory (Fr., St. Cloud State University) for a 5-2 lead.

A 6-2 lead was taken by Willmar in the top of the sixth off a two out single against the Rox.

In the top of the eighth inning the Rox held the Stingers to three up and three down. The bottom of the eighth was big for the Rox as Dustin Breshears (So., St. John's University NY) earned a walk on his at-bat and Christian Helsel (Fr., Ole Miss) followed with a single with one out on the board. The Rox' Garrett Fischer (R-Jr., St. Cloud State University) drew four ball for the walk loading the bases but the Rox were unable to keep it alive with two straight outs to end the inning.

St. Cloud held the Willmar Stingers to nothing in the top of the ninth to keep hopes alive trailing 6-2.

Tim Colwell led off in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Rox earning a walk. Martin followed hitting a double and then Morgan hit a ground rule double as it bounced right over the right field fence making it a 6-4 game against the Stingers. The Rox had no outs on the board. Kasley Ralston (Fr., Indiana University) came into pinch run for Morgan at second and Keniry earned the walk keeping it alive for the Rox. Rox fall short to Willmar by a final score of 6-4.

On the mound for the Rox Sunday was Eric Nyquist for the start pitching 4.0 innings of work before being relieved by Reese Gregory who pitched 2.0 innings. Other pitchers for the Rox that saw some action were John Oltman (R-Fr., Creighton University) for 2.0 and Adam Maxon (Jr., Jacksonville University) finishing the game for 1.0 innings pitched.

The St. Cloud Rox lead the Northwoods League in runs scored (113), at-bats (678) and hits (183).

The St. Cloud Times Rox' player of the game is Charlie Morgan as he went 2-for-4 including two doubles and two RBIs keeping the Rox alive against the Stingers.

The Rox (8-11, 8-11 North) and the Willmar Stingers (12-5, 12-5 North) will be back in action on Monday as they complete their four game series back in Willmar. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Sunday at the ballpark was a Father's Day and Men's Health Day presented by Adult & Pediatric Urology. The first 250 kids 12 and under through the doors received a blue Rox baseball. There was also a player jersey auction with all proceeds benefiting Prostate Cancer Research.

After the game kids got the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field as it was a Coborn's Kids' Day.
