Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - June 16, 2013. Green Bay Bullfrogs (8-11) second baseman Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech) spoiled Father's Day at the "Duck Pond" and ended the Madison Mallards (10-7) three-game winning streak by hitting a three-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to give the Bullfrogs a 7-4 win.
Burleson also went yard in the sixth off of Mallards reliever Kristian Calibuso (Eastern Michigan) and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. His game-winning home run came with two outs and runners on first and third with Mallards reliever Hunter May (UNC-Charlotte) on the mound. Burleson took May's 2-2 offering and nailed it into the Meriter and Physicians Plus Backyard in left field.
With the loss, May drops to 0-1 on the season and his ERA rises to 3.60.
Bullfrogs first baseman Tripp Martin (Samford) hit a two-run home run off of Mallards starter Jordan Tabakman (UConn) in the fifth and the Bullfrogs other run came in the fourth when left fielder Boomer White (TCU) came around to score on a Mallards error.
Mallards catcher Mike Fitzgerald (Indiana State) got the Mallards on the board early by singling in right fielder Drew Weeks (North Florida) in the second. Center fielder Tate Matheny (Missouri State) provided the rest of the offensive fireworks for the Mallards, as he hit a three-run bomb in the fifth off of Bullfrogs starter Derek Callahan (Gonzaga). It was his fifth home run of the season.
Tabakman went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs - all earned - on four hits and two walks. He struck out one.
Sam Forkert (Marian) also made an appearance on the mound for the Mallards and pitched the seventh, eighth and ninth and allowed only one hit while striking out two.
Will Landsheft (Drury) got the win for the Bullfrogs by pitching the ninth and tenth. He struck out the side in the bottom of the tenth.
The Mallards were led by Matheny's three RBIs. He finished 1-for-4. First baseman Jeff Zahn (Indiana State) was the only Mallards with multiple hits and went 2-for-4. Mitch Elliott (Xavier) went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Burleson, White and Martin powered the Bullfrogs and went a combined 6-for-14 with six RBIs.
