Rox drop series finale to Cutter, 6-5

The Brockton Rox (13-11) dropped the series finale to the New Haven County Cutters (7-17) at Yale Field on Sunday by a score of, 9-6.

Eugene Julien walked to start the game, stole second base and advanced to third on a single by Saul Bustos. Bustos' hit extends his current streak to nine games. Julien scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Jake Daubert to give the Rox a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Derek Gibson hit a solo home run to tie the game, 1-1. The home run is the third of the season for Gibson.

The Cutters took the lead in the fifth. Darren Ciraco singled home Nick Hiter to put the Cutters out in front, 2-1.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Kris Zacuto scored to tie the game, 2-2, when Cutters third baseman Jeff Brooks made his second fielding error of the inning.

Bill Peavey led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to put the Cutters back on top. Later in the inning, Keto Anderson singled home Brooks and Orlando Encarnacion to give the Cutters a 5-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning, Craig Lewis singled in Julien and Daubert to cut the New Haven lead to a single run. Lewis then scored on a ground rule double by Senjem to tie the game, 5-5.

New Haven pulled back in front in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brooks reached on an error allowing Gibson to score and put the Cutters up. Joey Cole relieved Jon Koch withh the bases loaded and walked in a run. With the bases still loaded, Keith Stegbauer singled in two more runs to make it 9-5 New Haven.

The Rox rallied in the top of the ninth. Zacuto singled in Lewis to make it 9-6. The Rox brought the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Jim Coleman struckout to end the game.

Rox starter Mike Henry gave up four runs on five hits in his start for the Rox, but received no decision. Jon Koch (1-1) was saddled with the loss. Nick Rowland (3-1) picked up the win for the Cutters.
