New Haven County Cutters News Release

The New Haven County Cutters won the rubber match of the series against the Brockton Rox, 9-6, finishing their seven-game homestand with consecutive wins. Leftfielder Derrick Gibson, who ended Saturday?s game with a walk-off home run, was once again at the center of the Cutters offensive production. He belted his second home run in as many nights, plus added a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh inning that jumpstarted a four-run rally that put the Cutters ahead for good. Keith Stegbauer made the most of his start at second base, going two for five and driving in four runs. In the sixth inning, Keto Anderson was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs. Stegbauer made the Rox pay by driving a single up the middle that scored two. A similar situation occurred in the following inning. Nick Hiter was intentionally walked with one out to load the bases and create a chance for a double play. After Anderson struck out, Stegbauer stepped up to the plate and once again delivered a two-run single up the middle. After going scoreless for the first three innings, the Cutters scored in four straight frames, culminating with three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. Bill Peavey added his team leading fourth home run in the game. Cutters starting pitcher Jordy Alexander went six and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out four but did not factor in the decision. Nick Rowland picked up the win after throwing an inning and a third of shut out relief. Monday is a travel day for the Cutters as they venture south to take on division rivals the New Jersey Jackals for the first time this year starting on Tuesday.
