New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ ¬" The Jackals could only manage five hits against three Worcester Tornadoes' pitchers as they fell Sunday afternoon, 6-2.
4,031 fans, the fourth sellout of the season, saw the Jackals in the contest up until the fifth inning, when a seemingly harmless bunt single seemed to turned the game around. Starter Josh Brey laid out to try and make a diving play, but was shaken up as he slammed to the ground. Brey stayed in the game and battled through the next four hitters, but couldn't finish out the fifth. Julio Perez came on in relief with the score 2-1 in favor of the Tornadoes and recorded the final out.
The home squad battled back in the bottom half of the inning with the tying run, as Rich Gomez walked, stole second base and then scored on an RBI single by Tyler Brock. The Jackals got runners on second and third with one out, but couldn't push the go ahead run across.
It was the Tornadoes turn once again in the top of the sixth, with Josh Beauregard knocking in a run with one of his three hits for a 3-2 lead. The Tornadoes would add one in the seventh and two in the eighth to reach the final tally.
Reliever Andy Hutchings made his professional debut Sunday, throwing one inning of hitless relief for the Jackals.
Tornadoes' starter Michael Cox went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits to pick up his first win of the season.
The Jackals have the day off Monday, before kicking off a three-game series against the New Haven Cutters at Yogi Berra Stadium. For tickets and other information, please call the Jackals Ticket Office at 973-746-7434 or visit www.jackals.com.
