Brockton Rox News Release

(Pittsfield, Mass. - July 3, 2011) - Danny Bomback hit a lead off home run that went in and out of Chris Valencia's glove and over the centerfield wall to propel the Pittsfield Colonials (20-16) over the Brockton Rox (17-18) 3-2 in eleven innings Sunday evening at Wahconah Park.

Both teams received excellent starting pitching as Dustin Birosak andChad Paronto went toe-to-toe for eight innings.

Paronto had the better of the two outings, tossing eight shutout frames while giving up just four singles and striking out four, but was followed closely by the southpaw Birosak who allowed just two runs over eight frames.

Birosak scattered seven hits, allowing a two-out RBI double to Quentin Davis and a solo home run to Jerod Edmondson as the only damage.

Trailing 2-0, Keith Brachold smacked a single to open the ninth against T.J. Wink, who entered looking for his second save. Trey Hernandez quickly followed with a game tying two-run blast, snapping the Rox scoreless innings streak at 15 and forcing extra innings. The homer is also the first runs Wink has given up in more than 17 innings pitched this season.

Brockton's Jake Hale and Pittsfield's Mike Zenko (4-0) each contributed two scoreless frames, before Bomback stepped in to face Mark Rosen (1-1) in the bottom of the eleventh. Rosen's only pitch resulted in a walkoff win for the Colonials, giving Pittsfield a 2-0 series lead heading into Monday's July 4th series finale.

Brachold continued to impress, going 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the loss.

Veteran Freddy Flores gets the call for Brockton in game three as the Rox look to avoid dropping five straight for the first time this season. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. with Independence Day fireworks to follow the game.
