Colonials Sweep Rox

July 4, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Pittsfield Colonials News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA - Pat Moran pitched eight shutout innings and Johnny Welch provided all the offense that the Pittsfield Colonials would need with a second inning homerun as the Colonials completed a three game sweep of the Brockton Rox with a 1-0 win in front of 4,009 fans at Wahconah Park.

After each team was retired in order in the first, Welch provided the only run of the game with his 10th homer of the season, hitting a shot into left-center. The homerun tied Brockton's Ryan Royster for the league lead.

Other than the homerun, both starting pitchers were in complete control. Moran went eight shutout innings allowing five hits, striking out three. Moran (4-2) went to a three ball count only four times in the game and only once did the Colonials starter allow multiple baserunners in an inning. Matt Lyons pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.

On the flip side, Freddy Flores (3-2) was dominant for Brockton going 7.1 innings allowing three hits and striking out nine.

The Colonials now have the next two days off before the face off against the Newark Bears Thursday night at 7 p.m. For tickets, visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
