Brockton Rox News Release
(Brockton, Mass. - August 16, 2011) - After the series opener on Monday was washed out, the Brockton Rox (18-11, 44-31) and Quebec Capitales (17-11, 50-24) played twice on Tuesday night. The Rox came up short in both games, falling 3-2 and 4-1 respectively.
Bryan Rembisz (6-1) stole the show in the second game at Campanelli Stadium, pitching brilliantly for Quebec in a complete game effort. Rembisz allowed just one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out five.
The lone run of the game conceded by Rembisz came in the seventh inning, when Keith Brachold led off the frame with a double and went on to score after Shawn Williams grounded into a bases-loaded double-play.
The Capitales drew first blood in the second inning and never looked back. Seth Henry launched a two-run homer off Freddy Flores (6-7), scoring Robert Wagner and giving Quebec a 2-0 lead.
Quebec added to their total in the third inning, as Sebastien Boucher and Wagner drove in Goefrey Tomlinson and Josh Colafemina with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly respectively.
Flores went 5 and 2/3 innings, conceding four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk, while striking out six in the loss.
Before the first game even started, the Rox were hit with some bad news as Mike Smith, the scheduled starter for game one, was placed on the disabled list minutes before he was slated to start with an injury to his right wrist.
Jake Loye was called upon to start for Smith and pitched nicely, surrendering just two runs on five hits, while walking none and striking out two in five innings.
The two runs given up by Loye came off the bat of Mitch Delaney, who blasted a two-run homer in the second inning to put the Capitales on top.
Brockton responded in the fourth and fifth innings with a pair of runs off starter J.F. Ricard. Williams came around to score on a two-out, infield single from Mike Torres in the fourth. In the following frame, Melvin Falu plated Dominic Ramos with a double to tie the ballgame.
Ricard allowed two runs on six hits, while walking none and striking out three in his first professional start. Neither of the runs were earned.
Mark Rosen (3-3) came on to pitch in relief of Loye in the sixth inning. After striking out the first batter, the southpaw struggled to find the strike zone and walked the bases loaded. Ivan Naccarata then grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Rene Leveret and gave Quebec the 3-2 lead.
T.J. Stanton came on to pitch the seventh and earned his 13th save of the season following a 1-2-3 inning.
Brockton and Quebec will meet once again at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday night. RHP Julian Sampson (7-4, 4.09) will face RHP Dan Sausville (5-4, 5.40) as the Rox look to rebound after dropping both games of a doubleheader.
