St. Cloud Rox News Release
Green Bay, WI- The St. Cloud Rox scored twice in the second half of Friday afternoon's contest with Green Bay, but could not overcome a three-run deficit as the Bullfrogs defeated the Rox on Independence Day by a score of 3-2 at Joannes Stadium. The loss moves the Rox to 0-3 in the second half of the season after going 19-16 in the first half.
St. Cloud used a combined seven hits, and timely hitting from Mitchell Kranson and Seth Heck in the loss, but could not overcome an early deficit to the Bullfrogs, who brought in three runs in the first three innings which proved enough for the victory. Matt Rodgers started on the mound for the Rox and went 4.2 innings while allowing three runs on six hits to earn the loss and move his record to 1-3 on the season.
Rodgers was relieved in the fifth inning by Ben Lumsden, who recorded the final out in the fifth and went on to throw 2.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Kevin Burgee then came in for the eighth, keeping the scoreless streak going and striking out one in the process.
The Rox began to chip away at the 3-0 Green Bay lead in the fifth inning when Seth Heck singled to score Boo Vazquez and give the Rox their first run of the game. Heck finished the game 2-for-3 for the Rox, including his RBI single.
The score remained the same until the eighth inning, when Mitchell Kranson popped out to score Bradley Strong and make it a one-run game with one inning left to play. Though they posted two runs late, the Rox could not get a run across in the final inning as Ivan Vieitez of Green Bay shut down the Rox in the ninth inning, recording his second save of the season and giving his team the victory.
The Rox will now finish the series in Green Bay tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. before ending their road trip in Rochester for one game on Sunday, July 6th. St. Cloud then returns home on July 7th for one game with the Honkers, which is Hot Dog Hundo Night, presented by McDonald's Meats, where fans will the have the opportunity to win numerous prizes and up to $100 just for purchasing a hot dog.
