Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Wisconsin Rapids Wis. - The Kenosha Kingfish visited Witter Field on Independence Day and were able to get the win 4-3. The Kingfish move to 3-0 and are a half game back from first in the division.
The Kingfish were able to jump ahead early in the game. With two outs in the second inning, Spencer Gaa sent a 2-1 pitch over the head of the third baseman to reach, followed by Zack Kolakowski getting hit by a pitch to move runners to second and first. Taylor Douglas then walked to bring up Buddy Reed who would take ball four and score Gaa for the first run of the game. The walks would haunt the Rafters as they totaled nine in the game.
The Kingfish could not keep the lead however as Rex Morrow threw 30 pitches in the second inning and walked three, including one to score a run, in which the Kingfish found themselves trailing 2-1. Morrow was able to strikeout two in two innings but couldn't dampen the Rafters. The bullpen behind Dillon Mazzoccolli, Paul Schuster, and Coley Thompkins came in and finished the job.
Kingfish scored two more runs in the fourth on a Buddy Reed sacrifice fly and an error on the second baseman allowed the next run to score. The Rafters would tie it in the sixth before King Elvis' crew came back in the seventh and Pat Porter came up big to score Chris Godinez to break a 3-3 tie. Godinez (2-5, 1H, 2R) continued his streak and scored for the fourth game in a row.
Rafters' starter Joe Malmim went six innings, giving up five hits and three runs but did not earn the win. Rafters brought in Justin Schander to keep the game tied at three apiece but could not finish the job and the Kingfish won 4-3.
With the third win, General Manager Jake McGhee continues his guarantee to fans and will sleep on the Bambino boat tonight for the third night in a row. He will continue to sleep on the 43 foot long boat in left field until the Kingfish lose.
The Kingfish play the Wisconsin Rapids tomorrow night and return on Sunday, July 6th for a double header against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The affair features "Bark in the Park" night and a performance by Whiplash the Cowboy Riding Monkey. For more information regarding the doubleheader, visit kingfishbaseball.com.
