Mallards Fly Past Bombers in Game One of July 4th Doubleheader

Madison, WI - July 4, 2014. The Madison Mallards (3-0, 21-15) took down the the Battle Creek Bombers (1-2, 17-21) today in the first game of their July 4th doubleheader at the "Duck Pond."

Game one was a re-start of the postponed game from June 19th against the Bombers and began in the bottom of the first inning with the Mallards down 1-0, but designated hitter Trent Higginbothem would single as the second batter and come around to score later on an overthrow after stealing third base.

Third baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) would add another run in the first after walking and coming around to score on second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz's (California) single to go up 2-1.

Tenerowicz would add a triple in the fourth and finished 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Pitcher Christian Taugner (Brown) started in the re-start and struck out the side in the second inning, followed by four innings of two run ball.

The Mallards broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning to go up 4-3 and added another run in the eighth on a an Adam Walton (Illinois) sacrifice fly.

Devin Over (Connecticut) pitched two innings of flawless relief in the seventh and eighth, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one to get the win.

Bombers reliever Luke Heller (Cornerstone) received the loss, giving up two runs on three hits, walking two while striking out one.

The Mallards wrap up their four day, five game home stand at the "Duck Pond" tomorrow against the Bombers at 4:35 pm.

Saturday there will be post-game fireworks and entertainment provided by the Hometown Sweethearts and the Madison Music Foundry sponsored by Budweiser. Tomorrow night also features a Schoep's Ice Cream Scoop Giveaway and a Bucky Book Giveaway to the first 1,000 Fans.
