Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs welcomed the St. Cloud Rox to Joannes Stadium for the first time all season on Friday afternoon. Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) threw another quality game on the mound for the Bullfrogs and helped guide Green Bay to their second straight win, winning on Friday by a score of 3-2.
The Bullfrogs scored all three of their runs in the second and third innings. In the second inning, Green Bay scored two runs on two RBI groundouts. Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) started the inning with a single, before he moved to third on a double by Ryan Koziol (Gulf Coast State). Bekakis then scored on an RBI groundout by Ivan Vieitez (Lenoir-Rhyne), before Koziol scored the second run of the game for the Bullfrogs on an RBI groundout by Dean Long (Emporia State).
Green Bay added one more run in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead over St. Cloud. Matt Beaty (Belmont) drew a walk before he came around to score on a Brian Celsi (California) RBI single with two outs.
Three runs were plenty of support for Baroniel, who gave up just one run on four hits in six innings of work on Friday. Baroniel also struck out two and picked up the win for the Bullfrogs. He now has wins in his last three starts for Green Bay.
Vieitez came in to pitch the ninth inning and threw a perfect inning for the Bullfrogs and preserved the lead to earn his second save of the season.
St. Cloud scored their first run of the game in the fifth inning to pull within two runs at 3-1. Seth Heck (Mississippi State) had an RBI single that scored Boo Vazquez (Univ. of Pittsburgh).
The Rox threatened again in the eighth inning, but managed to plate just one run in the inning. A sacrifice fly by Mitchell Kranson (California) scored Bradley Strong (Western Carolina) for St. Cloud, before Sam Brunner (Dodge City CC) came in to pitch for the Bullfrogs and ended any further threat from the Rox.
Matt Rodgers (Evansville) took the loss for St. Cloud on Friday. Rodgers threw four and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on six hits.
The Bullfrogs and Rox will play the final game of their two-game series at Joannes Stadium on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm from Green Bay.
