Edmonton Elks News Release
The resurgent Esks put their unblemished 4 - 0 home record on the line Friday in the third and final meeting of the regular season with the Stamps. Monday's convincing 37 - 16 win in the '08 Labour Day Classic served notice that Edmonton is a team to be reckoned with.
A win Friday and the Esks can move four points up on third place Calgary and sweep the two game Labour Day series for the first time in two years and take all three regular season games from their southern foes, something not done since 2002.
Ricky Ray's commanding performance and Kamau Peterson's season best outing got the headlines and weekly CFL awards, but Edmonton's win demonstrated that success starts up front. The O-line was rock solid, did not give up a sack and gave Ray plenty of time to hit seven different receivers on the afternoon. Defensively, Edmonton's front kept the Stamps off-balance and limited them to just three first half field goals.
The Esks off-season emphasis of improving team depth continues to pay dividends. In Monday's win, Calvin McCarty stepped up to fill the void when A.J. Harris left the game late in the first half, and special teams ace Tyler Clutts capably replaced Montez Murphy.
