Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Brian Moehler was sharp in his rehab start for the Express Friday night, but the Express offense stole the show in a 7-4 win over New Orleans.
Round Rock burst out of the gates in the bottom of the first inning as the first eight batters reached safely against New Orleans RHP Mike Wood. Brian Bogusevic walked to lead off the inning, Tommy Manzella singled to right-center field and John Gall doubled to left-center field to bring both runners home.
Mark Saccomanno singled, moving Gall to third, and J.R. Towles singled through the hole at shortstop to bring home Gall and move Saccomanno to second. Up 3-0, Yordany Ramirez doubled down the left field line, scoring Saccomanno and moving Towles to third. Reggie Abercrombie hit the first pitch he saw into deep left field for a double, scoring both runners and making it 6-0. Wood was relieved by Jason Standridge, after a sacrifice bunt by Moehler, and after Bogusevic walked, Manzella grounded into a double play to end the inning.
That was all the Express would need the rest of the way, though.
New Orleans managed one good inning against Moehler in the top of the third, scoring two runs on two hits and an error. Moehler left the game after four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, three walks and no strikeouts. He threw a total of 77 pitches, 45 for strikes.
Yorman Bazardo had a little more trouble than Moehler when he entered the game in relief, allowing two runs three batters into the inning, with the damage done on a home run to left field on the first pitch he saw from Bazardo to make it 6-4.
Kata ripped a solo home run in the eighth inning to pad the Express lead.
Round Rock welcomes Memphis to the Dell Diamond Saturday night, with Express RHP Jose Capellan takes the mound against a yet to be named Redbirds starter with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
