Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis earned a series split with Nashville Friday night at AutoZone Park with a 2-1 walk-off victory.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth Joe Mather delivered the game winning hit that scored Nick Stavinoha from second base. Stavinoha had singled to lead off the inning. Mather drove in both Memphis runs in the game and now has a three-game hit streak following a 0-for-20 slump. The Sounds scored their lone run in the fifth with Carlos Corporan scoring on a Tony Gwynn single.
Pitching dominated the first four innings of the game with neither starter allowing a hit. Nashville's Lindsay Gulin pitched five no-hit innings before being lifted for former Redbird Matt Ginter. Redbirds starter Clayton Mortensen pitched four no-hit innings before leaving in the seventh. Jess Todd earned the win in relief for the âBirds tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Wes Littleton took the loss allowing the winning run in the ninth. Trevor Hoffman, who was on major league rehab, gave up a run on two hits in his one inning of work.
Memphis hits the road tomorrow for a four-game trip to Round Rock with tomorrow night's game scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond.
