Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Chris Davis, Chad Tracy and Brad Nelson all homered as the Round Rock Express defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 15-6 in Tuesday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (58-39) won their fourth straight and improved to 6-1 since the All-Star break. The Zephyrs (46-51) have lost four straight. Round Rock leads the season series 7-3.
The Express built a 4-1 lead through the second inning that included Davis' 22nd home run - leadoff shot beyond the Zephyrs bullpen in right-center. Davis moved into a tie for sixth on the Express single-season home run list (Triple-A era); his homer total is the best by an Express player since Mark Saccomanno had 27 in 2008.
New Orleans pulled to within a run in the top of the fourth on consecutive solo homers from Matt Dominguez and Chris Aguila. However, Chad Tracy's three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth pushed the Round Rock lead to 7-3; it was his 20th home run this season. The Express put the game away with a six-run sixth inning, making use of two New Orleans errors. Davis had a two-run single, and Tracy capped the inning with an RBI double.
The Zephyrs plated a run in each of the next three innings but could get no closer. Nelson's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth finalized the scoring.
Starter Eric Hurley (4-0) earned the victory in his longest outing of the season. He worked 7.0 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout. Beau Jones struck out five over the game's final two innings.
New Orleans starter Elih Villanueva (4-8) took the loss after allowing eight runs on eight hits and five walks over 4.1 innings; he struck out three.
Davis was 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Matt Kata also was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Tracy finished with two hits and four RBI, while Leonys Martin was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI.
Five Zephyrs had multiple-hit games, led by Aguila's three-hit night. Mike Cervenak (0-for-4, HBP) snapped his 14-game hitting streak; he was robbed of a hit in the fourth when Express shortstop Guilder Rodriguez made a diving snag on Cervenak's line drive.
Round Rock and New Orleans continue their four-game series Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Ryan Tucker (1-2, 4.68 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Tom Koehler (6-6, 5.44 ERA) is slated to start for the Zephyrs.
