Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Tacoma Rainiers rode the arm of starter Mauricio Robles to a 6-5 series-opening win over the Tucson Padres in front of 1,991 fans at Kino Stadium on Monday night.
Robles, in his first start with Tacoma this season, held the Padres to three hits, all singles, over six scoreless innings and retired the final 14 batters he faced. The left-hander ended the night issuing just one walk with four strikeouts.
Outfielder Ryan Langerhans provided early run support, delivering a first-inning lead-off home run to give the Rainiers a quick 1-0 edge. The lead-off homer was Langerhans fourth this season and marked his sixth home run over his last nine games.
After Luis Jimenez hit an RBI-single in the fourth, Carlos Peguero extended the Rainiers lead to 5-0 with a three-run home run with Michael Saunders and Alex Liddi aboard. The long ball was Peguero's fifth with Tacoma this season and first since being optioned from Seattle on Sunday.
Catcher Jose Yepez rounded out Tacoma's scoring for the evening with a two-out single that plated the designated hitter Jimenez from third base.
Relievers Josh Fields and Scott Patterson combined to surrender four runs, three earned, on five hits over the seventh and eighth innings. Right-hander Josh Lueke picked up his team-leading 11th save despite allowing one unearned run on two hits over the game's final 1.1 innings.
The Rainiers (48-48) look to notch back-to-back wins over the Padres when they return to action at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Left-hander Chris Seddon (6-5, 5.64) is slated to get the start for Tacoma against Tucson right-hander Jeremy Hefner (6-5, 5.34). The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
