Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres scored five late runs but left the tying run at second base in the ninth inning Monday, falling to Tacoma, 6-5. The Padres trailed 5-0 when they scored three times in the seventh inning. After a two-out, two-strike single in the top of the eighth by Tacoma's Jose Yepez gave the Rainiers a 6-3 lead, the Padres scored once each in the eighth and ninth innings, but fell short and lost their third straight game.

One day after being held hitless through seven innings, the Padres bats started slow, as Tucson didn't have a baserunner from the second until the seventh. Tucson starter John Van Benschoten pitched well in his debut with the Padres organization, allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. The Padres signed Van Benschoten from the independent Atlantic League last week. Luis Perdomo pitched a scoreless outing for his league leading 46th appearance.

The Padres ended up with 10 hits in the loss, with Kyle Blanks, Matt Clark and Guillermo Quiroz picking up two each. The Padres lost ground in the standings, falling to ten games out of first place with a 46-49 record.

Next Game: Tuesday, 7:00 pm at Kino Stadium - Tacoma LHP Chris Seddon (6-5, 5.64) vs. Tucson RHP Jeremy Hefner (6-5, 5.34)
