Roughriders Overcome Rally, Win in 10

May 23, 2011 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The RoughRiders scored twice in the tenth to knock off the San Antonio Missions 6-4 Monday afternoon at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium. With the win, Frisco snaps the Missions' 11-game home winning streak and improves to 15-7 in May.

Davis Stoneburner's one-out homer in the tenth gave the 'Riders the lead for good. Three batters later, Leonys Martin added an insurance tally with a run-scoring triple, his third RBI of the game. Frisco (23-21) took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Missions (30-14) rallied to send the game to extra innings. In that frame, San Antonio sent nine men to the plate and knotted the score with two down on a Vince Belnome two-run single.

However, the Missions could not muster another comeback in the tenth. Ben Snyder stranded a runner at third and earned his first save of the season.

The RoughRiders jumped out to an early lead by virtue of a leadoff error in the first. Mike Bianucci singled in that unearned runner for his team-leading 32nd RBI. In the second, Martin doubled to score Stoneburner, who extended his hitting streak to a team-high ten games.

That duo joined forces again in the fourth, when Martin drove in Stoneburner with a single. Later that inning, the Missions gave Frisco another run on a balk to make it 4-0.

Frisco starter Carlos Pimentel held the best offense in the Texas League off the scoreboard in six innings of work. He scattered seven hits and stranded eight runners. Pimentel has now notched four quality starts in his last six outings.

Frisco now sits seven games back of the Missions for first place in the Texas League South with 26 games remaining in the first half. The 'Riders have a five-game lead for second place in the division.

The RoughRiders have Tuesday off before beginning a six-game home stand Wednesday night against Northwest Arkansas. Richard Bleier takes to the hill for the 'Riders against Buddy Baumann. First pitch is set for 7:05 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. For ticket information, call (972) 731-9200.

QUICK HITS: Jose Ruiz extended his hitting streak to eight games with a fifth-inning single...The Missions have only lost nine games to South Division foes, and five of them have come against the RoughRiders...Monday's game concluded a 32-game stretch against the South for Frisco.
