San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions were unable to sweep the four-game series this afternoon, with a 6-4 loss to the Frisco RoughRiders. Frisco was able to snap the Missions 11-game home win streak but San Antonio now holds a seven-game lead against the Riders.
Frisco quickly jumped out to a lead in the top of the first with two stolen bases from Leonys Martin, who was later advanced home by a single up the middle from Michael Bianucci. The Missions struggled at the dish while Frisco's RHP Carlos Pimental held San Antonio to only seven hits, zero runs, two walks, and three strikeouts through six innings.
The RoughRiders came back strong in the top of the second with a screamer to center field from Davis Stoneburner and a deep double to left field from Martin to plate Stoneburner. Later in fourth, Stoneburner once again scored on a single up the middle by Leonys Martin. Martin and Stoneburner combined had seven of Frisco's thirteen hits of the game.
San Antonio remained scoreless throughout 8 innings, but in good Missions fashion, they had a four run rally in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. Beamer Weems started off the inning by a walk, and later moved to third on a single from Anthony Contreras. A deep double to left field from Eddy Rodriguez scored Weems and sent Contreras to third. It wasn't over yet as Kyle Blanks was hit by a pitch which loaded up the bases. Shortly after, James Darnell was walked sending Contreras home followed by a Vince Belnome single that brought in Rodriguez and Blanks.
In the top of the eleventh Davis Stoneburner hit a solo homerun to take the lead once more, followed by Leonys Martin's triple that scored Guilder Rodriguez to seal the victory for Frisco.
After an off-day tomorrow, San Antonio will hit the road for six games (three at Arkansas and three at Springfield) before returning home Wednesday, June 1st.
