Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders (13-4) needed all nine innings to put away the Missions (9-8) and collect their league leading 13th win. Frisco put up six runs on 10 hits behind another quality start by Trey Hodges (2-1). Max Ramirez led the way offensively going
2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The Missions trailed most of the game and cut Frisco's lead to one with the bases loaded and the tying run at third base in the ninth, but Warner Madrigal was able to seal the victory and pick up his league-best seventh save.
The RoughRiders drew first blood in the bottom of the fourth inning when John Mayberry Jr. reached on a base hit to left field with one out. Chris Davis singled to right field and Mayberry moved over to second. Max Ramirez drove in the first run of the game with a single to left that plated Mayberry.
The Riders added to their lead in the sixth frame when Steve Murphy led off the inning with his fourth double of the season. Two batters later, Ramirez reached on an infield single that scored Murphy and a throwing error by the Missions allowed Ramirez to advance to second. Taylor Teagarden followed with a double to right field that scored Ramirez making the score 3-1.
The Missions got on the board when Craig Cooper reached after being hit by a pitch and later scored on a single up the middle by Jose Lobaton. San Antonio threatened to make the game interesting with back-to-back walks to Josh Alley and Brett Dowdy that loaded the bases, but Frisco reliever Jake Dittler escaped without giving up another run.
The RoughRiders added to their lead in their half of the seventh after Emerson Frostad led off the inning with his sixth double of the season. A throwing error allowed Elvis Andrus to reach base and Frostad to score. Steve Murphy followed with a triple to center field that scored Andrus. Mayberry then singled up the middle and Murphy scored to give Frisco a 6-1 lead.
The five run Frisco lead would not last long as the Missions answered in the eighth frame with three runs of their own.
Murphy added to Ramirez productive night going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Murphy, Ramirez, and Mayberry combined to go 6-for-12 with four RBI and four runs scored. Trey Hodges turned in another quality start pitching six innings striking out four while only allowing three hits. Dan Touchet, Chris Michalak, Dittler and Madrigal gave up four runs on eight hits in three innings of relief. Madrigal picked up his league leading seventh save.
The RoughRiders will send Michael Schlact (0-0, 2.50) to the mound against San Antonio's Matt Buschmann (1-0, 3.07) in game two of the series Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark scheduled with first pitch slated for 7 p.m
