West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : History within the Roughnecks professional football organization will be set on Saturday, May 15 as the Roughnecks will be honoring former wide receiver Joel Babb during halftime of this Saturday's home game versus the Arkansas Diamonds. Babb becomes the first Roughnecks player to be inducted into the Roughnecks Ring of Honor following a prestigious four-year career with the Roughnecks organization.
Babb was one of the first three players ever to be signed to the Roughnecks organization back in 2003 and became an essential factor towards the Roughnecks success. Following his collegiate football career at Alabama, Babb would set the bar for Roughnecks receivers who would come through the program.
"Joel was one of the first players I had the privilege of signing and he was one of the most talented players on the offensive side of the ball. He was a consistent play-maker that made other players around him better. He was one of the keys to our organization's success and I am proud of everything that he has accomplished in his career." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.
Babb currently owns five all-time Roughnecks receiving records including most receptions in a single season (118), most receiving yards in a single season (1,507), most receiving touchdowns in a single season (27), most receiving yards in a single game (215) and the most receptions in a single game (16). All records set by Babb occurred during the Roughnecks Intense Football League Championship season in 2006.
Babb would post great success at a higher level of indoor professional football in 2007 when he was signed to the Tennessee Valley Vipers of the AF2. In just eight games with the Vipers, Babb caught 33 passes for 507 yards and 13 touchdowns. Beyond his accomplishments on the field, Babb has developed a strong reputation for teaching younger athletes the game of football and he looks to further develop that trait for years to come.
